welcome @gambit

A votre prénom je devine (ou me trompe) que vous parlez français.
donc pouvez-vous nous indiquer la version d’ubuntu et la version de Sonic Pi que vous utilisez.

i’m italian
btw,
i use Elementary OS 5.1 hera (its a distro ubuntubased)
and i installed last version of SPI
anyway do you have some suggests for my situation? thanks

Hi @gambit,

probably a good idea to supply some more information, which is:

  • You should have a look at the log files and post what’s in there. Look for a directory (path) in your home folder names .sonic-pi/log and post the content (especially the obvious error messages).
  • Also interesting would be on which Ubuntu version your Elementary OS is based,
  • which Sonic Pi version you are trying to use and
  • how you installed it.

I don’t know if I can help but with more information about your setup the chances that someone can, will increase  .

So welcome Italy !

you don’t specify which spi version you’re using and how you have installed it ? Do you build it from sources or install via flat or a specific app center ?
Elementary OS 5.1 is based on which version of Ubuntu ? (hard to find the information on the official website of Elementary OS, it’s strange when you think they use the work made by ubuntu… Bref…)

okok… so thanks for answers.
in order:

  1. i was wrong sorry, my distro is:
elementary OS 5.0 Juno - based on Ubuntu 18.04 LTS

  2. i think my version is Sonic Pi v2.10.0, i ve just followed these instructions yesterday
    https://github.com/samaaron/sonic-pi/blob/master/INSTALL-LINUX.md

  3. in ./sonic-pi/log/gui.log i find this:

[GUI] - using default editor colours
[GUI] - shutting down any old audio servers…
[GUI] - starting UDP OSC Server on port 4558…
[GUI] - unable to listen to UDP OSC messages on port 4558
[GUI] - booting live coding server
[GUI] - waiting for ser…
[GUI] - Critical error! Could not boot server.
already running?

[GUI] - Critical error! Could not boot server.

thank u very much for answers <3

done, change nothing
is it normal that now i have two folders in /home? (./sonic-pi and /sonic-pi)?

i don’t know…

.sonic is a hidden folder created by sonicpi to store some files needed for its running as example error log files. The other folder sonicpi was created during the installation. (sorry for my english i’m french  )

could you change the subject of this topic : spi 3.2 installation fails under Elementary OS or something like that. Thanks
