Making a Sonic Pi club at a middle school

I am making a club at a middle school in the US. Any tips?
Also, how should I teach students?

Good for you for doing this! I teach MS computer science and use Sonic Pi in one of my classes. Not sure how it might work in a club setting, but here are a couple of thoughts:

  1. Students love coding their favorite songs. While that isn’t always as computer sciencey as I would like, it does give them some practice with midi, delays (rests), and maybe some parameter changing with opts, synths, and fx.

  2. I like to sometimes end with a “recital”. Students live code for a given length of time, you can invite other teachers or classes in to hear them. I find CS and music teachers are sometimes the best audiences.

Best of luck, and let us know how it goes!

I also don’t know all the things from the tutorial. Any thoughts?

A good tutorial/course to look at which can help both you and your students with learning how to use Sonic Pi is at http://sonic-pi.mehackit.org/
