I discovered Sonic Pi many years ago when I taught a Raspberry Pi summer enrichment class seven or more years ago. It was a low key class where boys ages 12-14 played with Linux, Python, Minecraft, and other things on the Raspberr Pi, including Sonic Pi version 1.0. Last week I stumbled upon my notes from that class and decided to check on Sonic Pi. It has grown and matured a lot since then, and I was inspired to create a high school elective course around it. I teach computer science, but we also need electives that can meet the students’ art requirement. I talked to the art department head and our music teacher, and they are both supportive. I have some music background, including playing with synthesizers in my younger days, so I am excited to get back into something musical as I teach our students some computer science.
Hi Gregory,
Welcome (back) to Sonic Pi! It has indeed matured and grown in recent years.

Hi Gregory, and welcome!
I wish I’d had a course like that when I was in high school. Of course, that was 50 years ago, and I had to content myself with basic and fortran on a terminal connected to a pdp-10 via a 110-baud modem with an acoustic coupler.
Hello Harry,
I think my high school computer class was 48 years ago. We had a similar setup except that we dialed into an HP 2000/ACCESS timesharing system running BASIC. However, my dad had bought an Apple II computer the summer before, so I had taught myself a lot of BASIC before class started. It was fun, anyway, and through that class I met a couple of other kids who were really interested in programming. I am friends with them to this day.
