Sonic Pi startup time?

Out of curiosity …
What about Sonic Pi makes it so slow to start ?
It takes longer than any other program I have experienced .

Others may have other comments, and I’m happy to be corrected if necessary, but to my understanding it’s at least a combination of waiting for acknowledgement that the Supercollider server has started up, (for which there is a 60 second time out) and that the Ruby server has managed to connect to it (with a 30 second time out). How long these actually take is most likely dependent on things like the processing power of the computer you’re running Sonic Pi on - so it will of course have the potential to take longer on a Raspberry Pi than on a desktop computer.
There may be more to it than this, but that’s my view of it :man_shrugging:

Thank You …
I was thinking maybe time to load samples …
Never thought of " times out "

Sure. It doesn’t have to take 60 & 30 seconds to connect everything - that’s just how long it will allow before throwing an error. It’s quite possible the Raspberry Pi hardware is a decent contributor to start up time as well.
